Charleton Marriage Gratuity

Charleton Marriage Gratuity

The Charleton Marriage Gratuity Trust provided a small gift of money for less affluent Protestant couples when they were married. Geographically, the Trust operated principally in Co. Longford but also in adjacent areas of Co. Westmeath, etc. In many cases couples applied for the money long after the actual marriage. The files are in the National Archives, Dublin.

The following text appeared under the above details. The basic text was standard on most of the Charleton Trust documents. From this we can deduce, that the Charelton Trust funds were only given to sons and daughters of Labourers.

John Moffatt was over 15 and under 30 and Honora was over 15 and under 40'.
