The 26 parishes and six baronies of Co. Longford are the principal administrative divisions we are concerned with before the famine. In some cases parish boundaries actually cross the county boundary, with Street being an example in Co. Longford.
The six baronies reflect ancient administrative units. For example, they are the regions of the 1659 Pender's Census for Co. Longford, and remained important, especially into the 1850s. The map below details both the parishes and baronies of Co. Longford.
At times parish boundaries did change. For example, the part of Parish Killashee within the Barony of Longford was known as Parish Clonodonnell before 1771.
